Yin Massage

In addition to traditional Thai massage, I also offer Yin Massage.

Yin Massage is a very gentle, slow, and deeply relaxing massage. Like in Thai massage, it takes place on a mat, while you are wearing clothes that allow you to move comfortably. This massage has no quick movements, little pressure on the muscles, and no kneading as in regular Thai massage. Instead, I take you into gentle stretches where we stay for an extended time to give your tissue time to relax and unfold slowly.

Yin Massage focuses on stretching your connective tissue, also known as fascia. This tissue runs throughout your whole body like a three-dimensional spider web. It wraps around all the muscles, bones, and organs, running through them, holding them in place, and separating them.

Fascia can become stuck, dry and stiff, restricting movement and energy flow. Fascial dysfunction can cause both acute and chronic symptoms, and in current research into back pain, the role of fascia is becoming increasingly important. Fascia is a very different tissue from muscle. Muscles are there to move your body, and their fibers lengthen and shorten quickly and easily. Fascia, on the other hand, is there to hold things in place. So it is much tougher and takes time to respond to stretching and manipulation. That’s why it requires a different approach in massage.

For those familiar with yoga, the principles of this massage are the same as those of yin yoga. This style of massage is based on the work of the French osteopath Roland Combes, with whom I did several trainings. He developed a treatment method called Osteodance (or Wuo Taï), which is quite compatible with Thai massage.
